We Insist! - The Babel Inside Was Terrible
France’s We Insist! are a known name now in the avant-garde rock scene. The band has been steadily producing records and playing shows since the nineties now, and The Babel Inside Was Terrible is already their sixth outing. As one knows, this band never disappoints, find out on this new record.
The one difference with previous material from We Insist! is the absence of one of the two saxophone players. This hasn’t had an impact on the quality of the material though, for each and every song on this record is of outstanding quality. The band still draws influences from styles like rock, noise, free jazz, punk, metal, math, psychedelic and avant-garde and manages to combine it into a natural sounding whole with a nice groove and a bit of punch. Impossible to pinpoint, yet very nice. Impressive is the fact that the lead singer of We Insist! is their drummer, which is quite a job I’d say. Personally I’m not a great fan of his voice, yet this is entirely personal I think.
Fans can pick this one up blindly. People interested in experimental avant-garde rock music should definitely check this band out asap, for they belong at the very top of this scene. And if you get the chance to see them live some time make sure you do so, you’ll won’t be disappointed. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen. Conclusion: The Babel Inside Was Terrible is not terrible at all!
